Dr. Maureen Pierce is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Des Moines, Washington specializing in providing treatment to first responders and conducting preemploment evaluations. She presently works with a number of South King, City of Seattle, and Pierce County paramedics, firefighters, police officers, and troopers. She is currently receiving consultation and mentoring from a psychologist who has specialized in public safety evaluations for twenty years.
Dr. Pierce’s clinical work is focused on treating posttraumatic stress disorder and chronic pain, especially in the first responder community. Dr. Pierce has a specialty in utilizing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) a type of evidence based treatment for trauma. Dr. Pierce was a pain psychologist at Swedish Pain and Headache Center for 6.5 years and continues to be on medical staff at Swedish. She has performed over 100 service connection and disability evaluations for the Veteran’s Affairs Administration via QTC.
Dr. Pierce completed her predoctoral internship at the Central Arkansas VA Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas with a specific focus on health psychology. All of her training has been in the VA system, a medical setting, or in a private practice setting. She earned her Ph.D. from Indiana State University with a focus on health psychology. She has a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Emporia State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Kansas State University.
She is in good standing with the American Psychological Association and the Washington State Psychological Association. Dr. Pierce is also a member of EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), and Division 18 of the APA - Public Service.
